It didn’t take long after the advent of ultra dense 1TB per platter 3.5″ drives for manufacturers to start offering up new capacities. Now we’re starting to see a steady stream of 4TB drives hitting the market, with rumored 6TB and even 8TB offerings on the horizon.Source :https://pegasussonline.com/collections/hard-drive-4tb
One of the first to hit the market is this Black model from Western Digital. It’s a high-performance 7200RPM drive with cavernous capacity and intoxicating performance. The underlying technology is the same as the potent VelociRaptor series, with its 10K RPM and 7.2K read/write speeds.
High Capacity 4TB Hard Drive: Store More Data with Ease
The drive uses an industry-standard 3.5-inch 26.1mm height form factor and Advanced Format sector technologies, with the option of either 512e or 4Kn for maximum compatibility with legacy applications. There are also models that support Toshiba’s Persistent Write Cache technology to enhance the reliability of writes in power-loss conditions.
Unlike most other consumer drives, WD has placed the heat-producing components directly in contact with the body of the drive, which acts as a large heat sink. This helps the drive maintain a low noise level and maximize longevity.
In our tests, the drive performed near the top of the chart with a very consistent and competitive read performance across all queue depths. Its write performance was a little slower, but it maintained a flat curve and responded quickly to commands.
