If you spend much time outdoors or have anything resembling a gear closet in your home, chances are you’ve shopped at REI Co-op. The outdoor retailer breeds loyalty with its wildly generous return policy and extra perks for members, and now the revamped REI Co-op Mastercard gives customers even more reason to shop exclusively with this brand.
What is the main benefit of a credit card?
In addition to a 5% back on rei credit card offers purchases and 1.5% on all other purchases, the card offers a $10 Lyft credit each month, free breakfast at more than 2,000 hotels, Mastercard’s Lowest Hotel Rate Guarantee, and trip cancellation and interruption insurance. The card also has no foreign transaction fees, which is a boon for travelers.
You’ll have to meet certain criteria to get approved for this card, but the good news is that as long as you have a decent to excellent credit score, you should be fine. If you have a poor credit score, however, you’ll probably find it difficult to get the card (although you may be able to qualify for a secured version of this credit card).
Considering that many retailers are moving away from their store cards and instead offering rewards through their own loyalty programs, it’s pretty clear why REI would want its own credit card. With the REI Co-op Mastercard and the REI Credit Card, the brand is giving its shoppers plenty of reasons to stick with it in this evolving retail environment. Upon approval and their first purchase, new cardholders receive an REI gift card.
